Walk for the Water. Walk for the Rivers. Walk for our Future.

A group of diverse organizations and nonprofits are embarking on a great walk for the Rio Grande River in the pursuit of gaining its legal personhood/Rights of Nature. The Rio Grande River is a major life-force for so many and the home to millions of lifeforms and diverse and unique ecosystems, and we believe the time has come where we must physically come together and begin the process of declaring it a valid community member in the eyes of the law, one that can be advocated for, protected and honored as such. Starting on April 8th, 2022, a diverse group of nonprofits, water protectors, and environmentalists will join in Santa Fe, NM, to set out on a walk spanning over 300 miles along the Rio Grande River to its headwaters in Creede, Colorado. The goal of this walk is to bring awareness to the need for legal protection for the Rio Grande River and its tributaries and to honor the health and wellness of the water through collective prayer and ceremony.
